Rabbit Padlock Bracelet with Small Hook

Wah-Tung Factory produced locks under the ‘Rabbit’ brand, featuring either ‘Rabbit, ‘R’, or an illustrated rabbit motif. Specialising in middle to high-grade locks and metalware, examples are held at the Science Museum in London as representative samples of low cost, low-specification mass produced metal goods. Because of their simple and reasonably priced nature, Wah-Tung products were able to reach a worldwide audience.

The lock would be famously worn by Sid Vicious as a necklace, purchased by Chrissie Hynde from a hardware store in Chelsea. “Sid put the lock on a chain around his neck and I don’t think it ever came off again; not for sentimental reasons – he just didn’t take the key: He also never wore socks under his heavy engineer boots, and no shirt in the winter. Comfort didn’t seem to be his thing.”
